This project puts together a number of concepts and skills students have been working on in art class. The figures are inspired by the collages (paper cut outs) of the great colorist and painter Henri Matisse. Students learned the story of the most well-known of these cutouts: Icarus. The image of Icarus comes from a book titled Jazz. I use this image as an example of how artworks can often reveal a "hidden" meaning for those who are willing to look deeper.
