What I like about this project as a teacher - in addition to being able to help our awesome DeWitt Elementary PTA! - is the educational opportunities that it provides students in art. Rather than choose a subject for them, students use their sketchbooks to generate ideas, subject matter, and composition for their artwork. The choices they have to make through this process teach them about thinking like an artist. I simply guide them in sound principles to help them make their work successful. I know we will all enjoy the truly unique artwork they will produce in this process.
Our first art project this year is to create a unique picture to use for the Display My Art PTA Fundraiser. The projects will be finished and mailed in early October, and you should expect a custom brochure (and free magnet!) to arrive in the weeks that follow.
